On 23 September, I went to “Market Festival” by Kobe City Central Wholesale Market and “Hyogo Canal Festival”.

The time of two festivals overlaped each other ( Market Festival : 10:00-14:00, Hyogo Canal Festival : 11:00-20:00 ), but places of them were very near, we were able to participate in the both festivals.

In Market Festival, fresh fruits, vegetables and marine products special to Central Wholesale Market were sold for a bargain price. And many restaurants recommended by Central Wholesale Market ran booths and competed to serve delicious foods. A stage was set up to put on various shows.

I arrived at the site of Market Festival at about 11:00. I felt like losing no time in eating something, but there were so many shops that I could not decide what to eat and wandered around. At the time, Awa-Odori dance * and Yosakoi dance ** were performed on the stage.

*Awa-Odori is the traditional dance in Tokushima prefecture ( whose old name was Awa ).

**Yosakoi is the traditional dance in Kochi prefecture, and now numerous variations of Yosakoi are performed throughout the country.

Kobe-Nanko-ren group showed Awa-Odori dance in the front of food booths after they performed on the stage.

Well, when I begun thinking that I had to hurry to decide what to eat, I saw the sign which said “Oni-Hei * croquette”. It was too attractive to miss, because I have been a fan of Oni-Hei since my childhood. I immediately bought it. It included fried chiken and croquette, and costed 300 JPY.

*Oni-Hei is the nickname of HASEGAWA Heizou. He is the hero in “Oni-Hei’s Police Report”, which is a famous novel and TV samurai drama. He is a real histrical character in Edo period. He was active in the crackdown on vicious crimes.

There were some tables, but no seat was available. So I ate it standing up. I immediately ate all of it as it was so delicious. But I couldn’t know why its name included “Oni-Hei”.

After I ate fried food, I wanted to drink soup. When I wandered around, I saw the labarum which said “Kasumi crab soup” and a big pot. The price of the soup was also 300 JPY. I immediately bought it.

Crab’s feet were bigger than the bowl. This soup outvalued its price. It can be bought at the price only at Market Festival. The crab had much meat, and the soup was full of crab’s flavor.

I could eat more, but I stop eating because I also intended to eat at Canal Festival after that. I looked around booths of fresh food to choose something to bring home, and found a grilled eel. The price was 700 JPY.

Recently, 700 JPY is very low price for a whole eel. I bought it for dinner.

At the time, Kumamon came on the stage and the audience is so excited.

I found perilla juice made in Hyogo Prefecture at the booth of agriculture products. I tasted it and liked its freshening flavor and proper sweetness. I bought each bottle of green perilla juice and red perilla juice.

I finished shopping at Market Festival, and went to the site of Hyogo Canal Festival.
